Overview

Biography

Dr. Dan Petrolia has been on the Agricultural Economics faculty at Mississippi State University since 2006. A Louisiana native, he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from Louisiana State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on the economics of coastal resources and natural hazards, non-market valuation methods, and aquaculture. Aside from coordinating the department's graduate program, Dr. Petrolia teaches courses in benefit-cost analysis, environmental economics, microeconomics, and research methods. Dr. Petrolia currently serves on the Scientific & Statistical Committee of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council. He is a past editor of the journal Applied Economic Perspectives & Policy and is a past Director of the Southern Agricultural Economics Association (SAEA). Dr. Petrolia balances time between his offices at Stennis Space Center in coastal Mississippi and in Lloyd Ricks Watson on the main campus. While working on undergraduate degrees at LSU, he met a Cajun girl who agreed to marry him, and they now have six kids.
