Environmental Economics is a growing field at academic institutions around the country, as more programs are emerging to meet the needs for analysis of environmental and resource issues. In business, government, non-profit organizations, and education, environmental economists are needed to deal with such issues as resource allocation, pollution control, valuation of our ecosystems and natural resources, and cost-benefit analysis. The Environmental Economics and Management major at Mississippi State University provides graduates with the knowledge and analytical skills these jobs require.
Environmental Economics and Management graduates can choose from several career paths. Environmental and economic consulting firms need individuals to conduct environmental impact analyses, serve as researchers, and perform cost-benefit analyses. Government agencies at both federal and state levels need economists to carry out similar activities, as well as policy and legislative analysis of issues such as land use and pollution. Non-profit organizations hire environmental economists to work on a variety of issues, including sustainable development.
