Dr. Darrin Webb
Dr. Darrin Webb is the State Economist for Mississippi and Director of the University Research Center at the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). He has two degrees (BS and MS) from the Department of Agricultural Economics at Mississippi State. After finishing his Ph.D. at Clemson University, Dr. Webb became an assistant professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In 1995, Dr. Webb joined the IHL as an economist where he worked closely with the Revenue Estimating Group, formulating and presenting the University Research Center's estimate of projected revenue for the state. He also constructed and maintained the state's Leading and Coincident Indicator series, tools used to forecast economic trends in the Mississippi economy.
In July, 2010, Dr. Darrin Webb became the State Economist and Director of the University Research Center. The State Economist serves as the chief economist for the State of Mississippi. He works directly with the State revenue forecasting group, serving traditionally as the chair. In this capacity he forecasts and monitors collections of state general fund revenue. As many of you may know, the Agricultural Economics Department has traditionally been housed in the historic circa 1929 Lloyd Ricks Building. The Lloyd Ricks building was selected for renovation that is now underway, and we expect to take occupancy in December 2010. Mississippi State University Foundation offers additional information on the progress and financial needs associated with this grand renovation effort.
